gameDATA app for PS3:

•Allows the user to switch location of [game data] between internal HDD and first external USB HDD
•Allows to install PSN games (or any application/pkg) to external USB HDD
•Allows to get back to normal mode when you use "Ext. Game Data" option in multiMAN
•Allows saving space on internal HDD

How to use after you install gameDATA.pkg:

Make sure that no payloads are loaded (do a clean PS3 restart).
1) If you wish to install stuff to external USB - launch the app from "Game Data Mode: [HDD]"
2) You're now in USB MODE (the icon will change to USB device with "Game Data Mode: [USB]" title
3) Install PSN games or launch games - their data will go to the external USB HDD/stick
4) Play your PSN (or disc) games from external USB device
5) Once you're done with the game, either reboot your PS3 or launch the "Game Data Mode: [USB]" to get back to normal mode

Enjoy!

Ok I installed the gameDATA tool

I then pressed X on Game Data Mode: [HDD] but nothing changed to [USB] Mode

I don't have Multiman installed, does that make a difference I wonder.

Keep in mind I am using the Cobra Dongle.

gameDATA Tool (Rev2)

We heard a noise at the backdoor and thought it was just Condors cat again but to our surprise it was PS3 Dev andbey0nd. He dropped in to inform us that he has released a new version (Rev2) of his very popular gameDATA Tool for PS3. With this new version this time round andbey0nd tells us that his tool now has the ability to be used with ANY cfw (Cobra/TB/Kmeaw/Rebug/MFW 3.41 and 3.55) utilizing syscall35 ,fixed a bug that was present in Rev1 and made the package smaller. So with that said We present you with gameDATA Tool (Rev2) and changelog below:

What does it do?

* Allows the user to switch location of [game data] between internal HDD and first external USB HDD
* Allows to install PSN games (or any application/pkg) to external USB HDD
* Allows to get back to normal mode when you use "Ext. Game Data" option in multiMAN
* Allows saving space on internal HDD

Changelog:

gameDATA (rev 2)

* Installs on all connected USB drives (but uses the first detected USB for the game-data storage)
* Works properly after a clean PS3 start (when no payloads are preloaded by other tools/managers) (bugfix from rev 1)
*added "(utilizing syscall35)"
* Supports all firmwares: MFW/CFW 3.41, 3.55, including Cobra 3.55 and TrueBlue 3.55 (utilizing syscall35)
* Smaller in size (124KB on internal HDD and 47KB on external USB)

Props to Jay-jay for extending its features

Thanks for the new version

Finally had a chance tonight to test it out with Cobra USB
Its working good now.

Took me a couple tries to set it back to [Game Data Mode: HDD] though

Even after a Reboot, I had to do it once more. The Game I installed to USB hdd worked great though :D

Will try a few more times tomorrow

People are wondering if there is any way to move already existing psn games to external drive without having to reinstall them using the gameDATA2 tool.

I have no idea if this is possible or not, or maybe a copy feature is possible in the future.
