idea for greatly improving network drive scanning speed

Postby vesper8 » Sun Apr 15, 2012 9:47 pm

Hi there!

Love your product! And by that I mean mmCM Cobra version.

Right now by biggest gripe with it is that scanning network drives takes a very long time and doesn't cache what it finds at all! So everytime, it's very long once again.

You could fix this very easily by doing two things:

1) Before scanning for games in a given network drive, look for a file (a previous scan dump), if you find it, load that back into memory and forego the scanning altogether
2) When scanning for the first time, dump that file after scanning is done.

Just that.. would speed up scanning by 1000% in all of my cases (all cases where I have lots of games in ISO format). It'd be like night and day.

If you wanted to go one step further, you'd add an option to "force re-scan". Otherwise, the alternative is that whenever I want to force a re-scan, I just have to delete that dump file. Something I could totally live with!

Thank you for considering this major improvement.
