News10.net was recently able to interview Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs Cindy Gordon and ask her some questions on the backward compatibility of the Nintendo Wii U. Although nothing great was confirmed, Cindy did confirm that the Nintendo Wii U won’t be able to play DVDs or Blurays which is sort of disappointing due to the fact that current generations systems for example the Xbox 360 and the PS3 both play DVDs and/or BluRays.
However, with the digital age taking over, DVDs are dying out and Bluray surely won’t be here for more than 5 more years, services like Netflix and Hulu should be enough video services for the Wii U. In addition Cindy did confirm that the Wii U won’t be able to play gamecube discs, backward compatibility only goes back to wii, maybe you’ll be able to download gamecube games via the Nintendo Network. You can watch News10′s interview with Cindy below.
