THQ seeking '1666' trademark

THQ may be planning a new game related to 1666, according to a recent government filing from the publisher.

On February 22, THQ filed a trademark application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office for "1666." The mark is to be used for "video game software," among other gaming-related endeavors.

No further information regarding the trademark was made available, and as of press time, THQ had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

If the trademark is in reference to the year 1666, it coincides with the Great Fire of London. This historical conflagration destroyed hundreds of acres of the city in September of that year.

This isn't the only trademark filing THQ has logged of late. Earlier this month it was revealed that the publisher was seeking to trademark "Evolve." No information has come to light regarding that filing to date.

THQ has had a troubled year. It lost $56 million during the 2011 holiday quarter and cut as many as 240 jobs as part of its move away from the children's game sector. On top of that, THQ has until July 23 to get its stock valuation above $1 per share or it will face delisting from the Nasdaq stock market.
